Oleg Makarov, VKP’s Managing Partner Highlights the Realities Of Doing Business in Ukraine during a Ukrainian-Chinese Business Forum
On August 26, 2010, a Ukrainian-Chinese Interregional Business Forum was held in Kyiv. The Forum was organized by the Chinese Committee for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the participation of a public association – the Ukraine-China Business Council and the Association of Ukrainian-Chinese Cooperation.
The Forum was attended by all those interested in promoting the Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation, namely Chinese and Ukrainian businessmen, heads of regional chambers of commerce and industry operating in Ukraine and of China local subcommittees of the CCPIT, diplomats, and chief executives of state agencies. Vasil Kisil & Partners Law Firm was represented at the Conference by Mr. Oleg Makarov, its Managing Partner. Addressing the forum, he spoke about Legal Aspects of Doing Business in Ukraine.
In his speech, Mr. Oleg Makarov, in particular, highlighted that "The realities of doing business in Ukraine and dynamically changing and improving laws compel foreign companies to be particularly careful in selecting Ukrainian partners and independent counsels. One should always strive to find an advisor who would keep close track of even the slightest changes in laws and could timely warn of probable consequences, as well as give valuable practical advice thereby helping to avoid risks. We are confident that we have enough experience and expertise to provide legal support for the projects of Chinese companies in Ukraine. We believe that Ukrainian-Chinese commercial relationship has a lot of potential and is to the benefit of both our economies. As lawyers, we see our role as facilitators of a constructive engagement with China to eliminate trade and investment barriers and develop a rules-based commercial environment that is predictable and transparent to all parties”.
At the conclusion of the Forum, a number of agreements between regional chambers of commerce and industry operating in Ukraine and local departments of the CCPIT were signed whereupon even attendees took advantage of the informal atmosphere to make new business contacts.
